The first “American” perspective you will read below is from the parts of our country that are trying to turn back the equality progress we have made in Oregon. The second “American” perspective you will read about is the most likely from the wave of a newer generation, one that is ready for change an openness and less bound by archaic interpretations of cultural traditions and dictates. The differences between these two perspectives on same-sex relationships are quite extreme. I wonder, which would most citizens in Oregon espouse? I guess we will find out by July 3, 08 when we see if they gathered enough signatures. (Note: the mention of this “homosexual agenda” again. It is amazing that those folks actually ascribe a whole “agenda” to our desire to live and love with our families like they claim the “inalienable right” to).

3 Vote(s)

I like how this blogger articulated WHO exactly is destroying families: "Who's really destroying the family here? Senator Girod and Representative Esquivel want to forcefully divorce me and my partner, as well as the 1,300 other same-sex couples who have registered their partnerships since February 4. And remember, Girod and Esquivel don't just want to hurt loving, committed couples, they want to hurt children as well. The OFFA ensures that children of same-sex couples will have the benefits that flow from having two legally recognized and legally partnered parents.

3 Vote(s)

Same-sex Oregonians have had the option and privilege to register for a Domestic Partnership. I have several straight friends and acquaintances who have been excited about this news for our community, but who have also said they wished that they could head down and get a DP (for various reasons not believing in the "institution of marriage"). The below story from WA state is excellent equality news, but also interesting in the fact that Washington chose to include opposite-sex couples in their domestic partnership legislation.

1 Vote(s)

Well, I wish I could just laugh it off! However, I would be remiss if I did not state what a load of hooey that title is (along with what it pre-supposes)!In my line of work, the only sex offenders I have ever had direct or indirect encounters with or knowledge of are: "heterosexual, married, christian" men (so much for the "sanctity of the institution of marriage" and "WWJD".).

1 Vote(s)

Inevitably, not all of the comments are "Yeah for you!" but some of the editorials or comments surprise me in the fact that individuals who were against gay marriage seem to be (now anyway) against any recognition or respect that same sex couples are afforded. Some even going as far as to say that they feel that Oregon's step forward toward equal rights and equal protections and provisions actually means to them

1 Vote(s)
